Andy Hope 1930: This Island Earth

The pictorial worlds of 'Andy Hope 1930' are poetic, familiar, and irritating at the same time. As science fiction pairs off with art history, comic book heroes appear side by side with emblems of the Third Reich, and dark shapes and light figures share the same canvas, his colourful and dreamlike imagery constantly threatens to tip over into its opposite—a nightmare. 'This Island Earth' collects new works by the artist, exhibited at Hauser & Wirth London in 2006. Colour reproductions of numerous works—from a 36-foot-long painting and smaller paintings, drawings, collage works to sculptures and banners—are in a clothbound hardcover, alongside informative texts by J.
