Recto/Verso: Art Publishing in Practice

In August 2018 Hauser & Wirth Publishers and Artbook @ MoMA PS1 Bookstore invited a diverse group of voices in art publishing to enter into conversation with each other about their varied experiences and the systems they have developed in their practices. The resulting series of programs featured perspectives ranging from institutional publishers to zine makers, artist-run presses to international distributors. Taking New York’s vibrant art ecosystem as a case study, this volume documents these conversations alongside contributions from many of the series participants. It is meant to stand as a compendium on contemporary art publishing, offering several points of departure for engaging with this discourse.
