Dieter Roth: WORK TABLES & TISCHMATTEN

Dieter Roth’s unique and eclectic Tischmatten or table mats represent a cumulative diary of his innovative, inspired, chaotic process, recording a world of creation and wayward ideas. Placed by the artist on tables in his apartment, studios and houses, the Tischmatten were initially meant to keep surfaces clean, however these used boards gradually became essential works in their own right.
