Philip Guston & the Poets

This monograph explores the work of Philip Guston in relation to literature. It places Guston’s work in dialogue with five of the 20th Century’s most prominent literary figures—D.H. Lawrence, W.B. Yeats, Wallace Stevens, Eugenio Montale, and T.S. Eliot—examining the shared humanist themes reflected in Guston’s paintings and drawings and in the poetry and prose of these literary titans. Featuring approximately sixty paintings and drawings from 1944 to 1980, 'Philip Guston & The Poets' also includes an essay by art historian and Guston scholar Kosme de Barañano.
